Happy Independence Day!!

The family celebrated a super Independence day with a BBQ. We spent it with family and friends enjoying the great weather and having an all around good time. Our neighbor put on an awesome fireworks display that I’d swear was a professional job. The pool had finally warmed up and they kids spent the day swimming and playing games. Paula organized a treasure hunt for the kids complete with a list of clues of things they had to find. The final clue led the two teams each to a cooler filled with water balloons, with the idea that they would end with a big water balloon fight. It was awesome and I know everyone had a great time.

Annual Camping Trip

We just came back from our annual camping trip. This year we went up to Woodland Valley Campground in Phonecia NY. Although it rained a bit, the boys really had a great time. They enjoyed fishing on the Esopus River and just exploring the wooded campground. Due to the weather we didn’t get a chance to do any real hiking but we did go on the Catskill Mountain Railway. I’ll try and get some pictures up when I get a chance.

School’s Out!

School is officially out for the summer! The boys are happy to be off and are looking forward to a long summer vacation. Both Alex and Nicholas will start summer camp in July and then on the days they are not in camp they’ll probably be in the pool at home. I am jealous!

Circus comes to town

Today we attended the Ringling Bros and Barnum Bailey Circus at the Nassau Coliseum. The entire family went including Grandma. The kids had a super time, and Alex and I were volunteered to ‘help’ out in the ring. Alex did a magic trick and even levitated me off the ground.

Alex’s 9th Birthday

This past Monday Alex celebrated his 9th birthday. We started the celebration over the weekend with a party and we took the kids out to the movies. We say ‘Hotel for Dogs’ which was really cute and all the kids loved it. Then we came back and had Pizza and Cake at the house. On Monday we took Alex out to dinner at Benihana, which was funny because it was also the Chinese New Year. Dinner was excellent and everyone had a great time. Alex got several really nice presents for his birthday. His favorites are his new Bicycle from Mom and Dad, his new digital camera from Grandma and his xMod RC car from Aunt Jeanie.

Today was our 12th anniversary and to celebrate we went out yesterday to the east end of Long Island and did the winery tour. We did Wine Tasting at several nice wineries and of course brought home a few bottles for later. The wineries we visited were (Paumanok Vineyards, Castello Di Borghese Vineyards, Peconic Bay Winery) Afterward we went to Jedediah Hawkin’s Inn for a romantic dinner. It was really nice getting out and celebrating our day.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular

Today we took Alex and Nicholas in to Radio City Music Hall to see the Christmas spectacular. Both boys enjoyed the show a lot. Alex’s favorite part was when the Rockettes were dressed as Nutcrackers. Nicholas liked the part when the Nutcrackers all fell down and when they made it snow inside the theatre. I enjoyed the bus on stage. Afterwards we walked around Rockafeller Center and saw the tree and the ice skaters. Its too bad it wasn’t lit up yet. Then we went to the Nintendo store to check out the Wii and try out some games. We were hungry so then we ate lunch at Heartland Brewery. They had awesome beers that they brew themselves. After lunch we walked down 5th ave and saw the store windows all decorated for Christmas.

Weekend Events

This weekend was chock full of activities and events. On Saturday we all went to Alex’s school where they had their annual Halloween Carnival. It was a nice event with lots of games and prizes. Everyone had a good time. Then Saturday night Alex and I went to an Islanders Hockey game. The Islanders were playing against the Carolina Hurricanes. It was an exciting game, with a penalty shot in the last second of the game. Alex really had a good time. On Sunday we had Alex’s flag football game and some beautiful weather. In the evening we went to the Nassau County Museum of art where they had a Twilight Pumpkin Spectacular. It was a very cool event that included over 3000 carved pumpkins and lots of other Halloween displays. Both Alex and Nicholas had a great time.
