Alex and I just got back from a weekend at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp where they had their Webelos Woods campout. Although it was a little cold, the weather held out and everyone had a great time. The boys enjoyed all the activities that were offered (Archery, Rock Climbing, learning how to start a fire, etc.). Alex can’t wait to go camping again.
Alex, Paula and Nicholas were outside cleaning up the garden when they spied this HUGE grasshopper. It was really cool to watch as he ate the flowers.
We had our first snowfall of the season and it was a whopper! It was an official BLIZZARD! We had 2 feet of snow and in some spots where there were drifts it was 3 feet. It took several hours to dig out, thank God for that snow blower I bought this summer. And then we went to Grandma’s and dug her out. After that we came home and Alex and Nicholas went sledding with their friend.
We just came back from our annual camping trip. This year we went up to Woodland Valley Campground in Phonecia NY. Although it rained a bit, the boys really had a great time. They enjoyed fishing on the Esopus River and just exploring the wooded campground. Due to the weather we didn’t get a chance to do any real hiking but we did go on the Catskill Mountain Railway. I’ll try and get some pictures up when I get a chance.
Recently a rare albino jungle dog was sighted digging for food. Apparently it was using the shelter of some nearby plants to keep cool during the mid day heat.
Unfortunately researchers were unable to attach a tracking collar before the beast disappeared again into the dense undergrowth.
The new playground was installed today and the kids had a grand time playing on it. They spent several hours outside climbing, swinging, and sliding. Fun was had by all.
We had our first snow this weekend! We got about 2 inches on the ground which was just enough for the boys to head outside and build a snowman, and sled down the hill in our front yard. It was nice while it lasted, unfortunately by Monday afternoon it was all melted away.
Well we finished up the fall flag football season this weekend. It was a lot of fun and Alex and I really enjoyed it. Even though we lost the last game of the season I think the whole team walked away with a good attitude. We all learned a lot and had a great time doing it. Way to go Panthers!
This weekend was chock full of activities and events. On Saturday we all went to Alex’s school where they had their annual Halloween Carnival. It was a nice event with lots of games and prizes. Everyone had a good time. Then Saturday night Alex and I went to an Islanders Hockey game. The Islanders were playing against the Carolina Hurricanes. It was an exciting game, with a penalty shot in the last second of the game. Alex really had a good time. On Sunday we had Alex’s flag football game and some beautiful weather. In the evening we went to the Nassau County Museum of art where they had a Twilight Pumpkin Spectacular. It was a very cool event that included over 3000 carved pumpkins and lots of other Halloween displays. Both Alex and Nicholas had a great time.
Well, here we are deep in the midst of fall. I have been coaching Alex’s flag football team (http://www.i9sports.com) and Paula is working with the boys to get their Halloween costumes finished. I am enjoying the fall colors and the cooler weather. Of course that means I have to get ready to start raking leaves.
We had a great summer, lots of adventures (balloon festival, camping trip, a visit to Rhinebeck Areodome, and of course our vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina).
