Last night Nicholas and I completed his Pinewood Derby car. We put on the wheels and made sure they were aligned. Then we added graphite for lubrication to make the wheels nice and fast. The weigh in is this Saturday and the Derby is Friday 01/27/2012. We can’t wait to see how his car performs.
Nicholas’ Pinewood Derby car is almost ready. He has finished with the decorations and we’ve painted and put on a clear coat on top. The last step is to put on the wheels and make sure everything is properly aligned. Looking forward to the weigh-in next Saturday.
We just finished up our first Pinewood Derby workshop at our home. We invited some of the families in Nick’s den to come over and we went through the basic woodworking necessary to build their Pinewood Derby cars. We had a good turnout and a lot of great car designs. I think the boys had a good time and I know come the Pack Night we are going to have a great race.
This past Saturday the family went on a Cub Scout sponsored fishing trip out of Captree State Park. We boarded the “Yankee III” at 3:45pm and headed out to Fire Island Inlet to do some Fluke fishing. We all caught several fish, even though none of them were keepers. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and both Alex and Nicholas had a great time fishing. We had such a good time that we’ll have to do it again soon.
This year both Alex and Nicholas participated in Memorial Day traditions with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. First they went to Calverton National Cemetery and helped place flags on all the graves to honor our veterans. Then on Monday, they actually marched in the Smithtown Memorial Day parade. Although it was very hot they all had a good time.
We attended the Cub Scouts Blue and Gold Dinner at Villa Lombardi’s yesterday. It was a really nice ceremony and the boys had a good time. It was nice to see Alex achieve his Arrow of Light and progress up to Boy Scouts. He is joining Troop 565 and his first meeting is this week. He is really excited.
Alex and I just got back from a weekend at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp where they had their Webelos Woods campout. Although it was a little cold, the weather held out and everyone had a great time. The boys enjoyed all the activities that were offered (Archery, Rock Climbing, learning how to start a fire, etc.). Alex can’t wait to go camping again.
