Our old deck had seen better days and was starting to show signs of needing repairs or replacement. So, this spring I decided to strip and rebuild it. I took a week off from work and spent the time removing the old boards and rebuilding the deck. It ended up being a family project and everyone chipped in to help out. It was a lot of hard work and its not completely finished yet but at least it looks better than it did. I can’t wait to be able to spend time outside enjoying it.

Memorial Day – ALMOST DONE
The pool project is moving along nicely. The pool itself is done, the water has been in for a few weeks now. They hooked up the heater and the boys and I have even gone swimming. But the patio and the retaining wall that are around the pool are still a work in progress.
The masons have built most of the retaining walls, and still need to finish the steps. But today they are pouring the cement that will form the base of the patio.
Well, we’ve finally done it. We decided to replace our aging above ground pool with a new in-ground pool. The project began in early April with the removal of our old pool and the re-grading of the back yard. They put in forms and poured a new cement walled pool and then began work on the liner.
As of yesterday afternoon the kitchen project has been completed. The tile backsplash was installed marking the end of the major work on the project. There are still a few odds and ends to finish up, and we still need to paint the combined walls of the Kitchen, Dinning Room, Living room, and hallway. But I am going to say that it is done! It took a little shy of a full 6 weeks to complete and we had a few bumps in the road along the way but I have to say I am happy with the job that was done. I can’t say enough good things about our contractor, he was very detail oriented and went out of his way to make sure we were happy.
Here are a few pictures of the finished product.
The cabinets are up and are really looking good. Paula and I picked out our granite counter top today and the color stain for our floors. I really like the look of everything and am very happy.
Day 8: the cabinets were delivered and are now sitting in the kitchen. Holy cow! That’s a lot of boxes. The contractor will be installing them today. I can’t wait to see how it will look.
Here we are in week 2 of the project. Things are going smoothly and in my opinion rather fast. The new sliding door has been installed, all the plumbing and electrical are done. The new hardwood flooring is almost finished and the contractor is talking about putting the base cabinets in by the end of this week.
The Kitchen Renovation project is in full swing now. All the sheetrock is down and the floor has been fixed. The electrical and plumbing are in progress.
The demo began today and the contractors have moved quickly. They removed all the cabinetry, the sheetrock and the flooring. It is amazing how different the room looks when it’s empty. I can’t wait to see the next steps. They still have to pull down the sheetrock from the ceiling and remove the subfloor to repair the issues with the joists.
So, after living in our house for almost 8 years and having to deal with our run down kitchen we are finally going to be upgrading. The contractor comes in on Monday to begin the demo. The entire family is looking forward to this project! Paula especially, since she’ll finally have a proper place to cook. Our old kitchen had 1 electrical outlet along the counter and really only about 2ft of usable space. That always made it fun when we had a lot of things going on at once. I’ll post pictures as the process moves along.
